CAGAFE: Full Schedule

We invite you to join us for the second annual Google in Education California Summit to be held at Sequoia High School in Silicon Valley on July 13 & 14, 2013. This high intensity two day event focuses on deploying, integrating, and using Google Apps for Education and other Google Tools to promote student learning in K-12 and higher education. The program features Google Certified Teachers, Google Apps for Education Certified Trainers, practicing administrators, solution providers, Google engineers, and representatives from the Google education teams. Register now to send teachers, administrators, tech directors, library media specialists, tech support staff, CTOs, and anyone who is interested in finding out more about leveraging Google Apps for Education to support student learning. Admin Strand Administrators and Leaders, make sure to check out the sessions geared towards leaders in Room "Admin Strand" or by searching titles with the #goodforadministrators tag. Make and Take Many presenters will be offering a "make and take" work session directly after their session. Follow up with some Q & A, work time and opportunity to create a project based on the session. Chrome Supports for Struggling Students

As many as two-thirds of students in classrooms today score below proficiency in reading. This includes students who speak English as a second language, students with disabilities, and others who do not yet possess the skills needed to meet today’s rigorous standards. While the Google Apps for Education environment provides great tools for productivity, collaboration, and research, it may not meet the needs of these struggling learners.

In this session, participants will learn more about common supports such as text-to-speech, text and picture dictionaries, translator, study skills, and annotations that can help students who struggle with reading and writing. The 20% Project is an idea developed at IBM and later adopted and expanded by Google. Google employees are encouraged to spend 20% of their work time dedicated to "passion" projects that ultimately improve upon and expand the Google brand of service and product offerings as well as venture into new R&D projects and community based philanthropic projects. The concept of The 20% Project as applied in the classroom is a means for students to explore their own fascination and passion surrounding academic content standards. Learn how the 20% project was developed for classroom use in the Google CAPE (Computer and Programming Experience) Summer program. As the Faculty Advisor for Google CAPE I was able to modify this for school use and eventually launched The 20% Project in my Algebra and Technology classes in middle school.
