Mindtools: What does it mean to be literate now?
We have created powerful new tools for the mind. Thing is, those tools are constantly evolving and changing even as the things they operate on change as well. This puts us in the position of having to learn how to find tools, and understanding the substrate on which they work. Literacy in these days is not just reading and writing, but also understanding what knowledge tools are available, and how they can be used in interesting new ways.

Students as Tech Support
Few schools have the amount of technical support that they need and one of the most overlooked resources schools have is their students! If you have staff who are reluctant with technology, students can be great liaisons to change while empowering the student at the same time. The student learns by teaching and the teacher learns by listening. In this session, we will cover a variety of examples of how this is accomplished.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Chromebooks, but Were Afraid to Ask
Chromebooks have been lambasted for what they don't do. They don't run local apps; they don't work offline; they don't run Java. But in San Diego, we LOVE Chromebooks for what they don't do. They don't take forever to start up; they don't need re-imaging every summer; they don't require special software to manage. The fact that Chromebooks can be purchased for as little as $200 is just an added benefit.

Join us to learn:How San Diego County Schools are using ChromebooksHow to evaluate different models of ChromebooksHow to purchase Chromebook Management LicensesHow to enroll Chromebooks in the Management programWhich issues we encountered during our Chromebook rollout

We will also cover how to manage Chromebooks, including:Restricting sign-in to students onlySetting networksThe difference between Device and User SettingsPreloading applications, extensions, and web pagesRetaining and erasing session recordsRestricting camera usePrinting
Come and see if Chromebooks might be a solution for your school.
